Over the past five years, guild members have donated more than 130 yards of handmade lace that has been used to accent Chemo Caps and preemie gowns. The lace is collected at the annual “Cut Off Day” in conjunction with the Holiday Luncheon.
Lace (any technique) must be ½” or less wide in white only for the preemie gowns. The chemo caps require lace no wider than 1½” and can be done in any color. Small motifs, no larger than 2”, can also be used on the chemo caps.
Historical Note: According to Thomas Wright in The Romance of the Lace Pillow, “In all the lace-making villages there was every five weeks Cut-off Day, when the lace was removed from the pillow and carried to the lace-buyer or his agent, who generally met the workers at the village inn.” (203)
